1995
Font was developed in 1995. This installation is located in the former jail of Palazzo Pretorio and it is visible through three openings in the floor of the entrance hall of the palace. The work consists of thirteen demijohns, deprived of their usual wicker baskets, mid-air suspended and tilted downwards. Under each demijohn are as many glass bowls in the same color. The use of blue glass characterized a significant group of Vittorio Corsini's works. In particular, the group of works exhibited in Siena, at the Conolly pavilion in the psychiatric hospital: Fragile body or Graft Hearts of 1998. While in all those works the use of glass allowed a sort of crystallization of the object or freezing of the subject, highlighting the emotional tone, the use of these transparent bodies in Font seems more natural, even if normality is only ostensible. Font combines an outward look of references to the peasant winemaking tradition with symbolic and mystical meanings: it is full of mysterious suggestions, of a life inside the ancient foundations, which in the past were also used as a jail. The mysticism of the work recalls religious meanings too: the cellar-font makes you think of baptismal water and of the blood of Christ. The beginning and the end of life.
