We Rise by Lifting Others

This piece is unique in the artist's production, as it is inspired for the first time by the landscape and the rural architectural tradition in which it is set. The work is deliberately located in the peri-urban area of Peccioli, creating an ideal boundary between the inhabited space and the rural area of the Serre, which have already been connected through the Palazzo Senza Tempo and its panoramic terrace. We Rise by Lifting Others, although placed in a green space, represents the ideal continuation of the recovery project initiated with the Anfiteatro Fonte Mazzola, the Municipal Library, and further developed with the illuminated cycle-pedestrian path and the restoration of the Righetto well, thereby completing a program in which the reappropriation of a rural territory, the expansion of its boundaries, and its history mutually inspire one another.
The work opens a dialogue with the surrounding landscape through its spaces and surfaces, whether luminous, mirroring, or made of Cor-Ten steel. We Rise by Lifting Others by Marinella Senatore activates emotional effects. This new architecture fosters relationships between us and the construction, as well as between us and the people we will meet there or with whom we will form connections. The conceptual foundations on which Senatore's research has been structured and elevated for twenty years consist of creating a space that does not separate the inside from the outside and vice versa, and of activating “free participation” among people through the work.
Light has always been a fundamental element for the artist: “Through participatory events, my practice creates moments of meeting and exchange with and for people. The element of light is crucial in this context, as it serves as a tool for storytelling and poetic creation, as well as for resistance and cohesion. Hence the choice of phrases related to empowerment, such as We Rise by Lifting Others.”
