Federico De Leonardis impacts on the urban fabric of Peccioli through a second work at the multistorey car park in the town. This commission offered the artist the opportunity to relate to a new context, while under construction, which is part of the contemporary urbanistic reality in evolution. Unlike Cane, which had to deal with a historicized urban fabric and an already strongly characterized architectural context, Crack and Upwind II responds to the precise desire to integrate the underground parking and its new lift with the town center. A single sloped diagonal line cuts through the grounds and the architecture of the parking lot. Concrete slabs, with the appearance and texture of lava stone, are crossed by steel cables, or rather they devour them as a lava flow would do after an eruption. The slabs resemble what could remain of a geological section that crosses the profile of the hill, indifferent to modern architecture. The brick construction, rising to the top, looks like a modern medieval tower. It is not left unscathed by the interrupted and jagged line; on the roof is a last tectonic plate and a gash is visible in a wall, like a clean cut, which opens only on its upper strip. As in the case of the hotel at the entrance of Peccioli, this is another attempt to characterize a newly built place in service to users. However, the intervention by De Leonardis is of a different nature, invading and irreversibly modifying the architectural structure.
